Tony Dudley of Interfit Photographic flags up a new product called the Titan Pro, which he describes as a "cutdown version of the Pocket Wizard transceivers".

Using the device, a combined transmitter and receiver in one unit that runs on two AA batteries, Tony suggests events photographers can fire strobes, hotshoe flashguns and camera shutters from up to 100 metres away - handy if covering equestrian events and wanting to be a safe distance from horses' hooves.

Profoto naturally has its own solutions, with its battery packs widely used in the rental market, and updated to include lithium ion as a power source. According to Area Sales Manager Steven Moore they "have now got our Air Sync 2.4Ghz trigger system built-in." Profoto further offers a battery option for its D1 Monobloc heads, enabling the photographer to use either two or four heads on location, depending on how the heads are switched.

As far as Broncolour are concerned, its mainstay is the battery-powered Mobil A2R. At the time of writing this unit was due for an update in the Mobil A2L, claimed to look identical. Group Marketing Manager for Johnsons Photopia Craig Calder claims that "more and more of our events-based business has been built around the increasing use of Speedlites, due to their ease of transportation, and flexibility.

More manufacturers are developing accessories to maximise this market. For us this is covered by Westcott, whose umbrella and Apollo flash kits are proving very popular, as is the Photo Basics 5-in-1 reflector kit."

Marketing & sales To make a sale at an event you want your pictures to look their best, and the quick act of slipping a print into a mount can immediately up your game. Realising that this creates the perception of a higher value, and so your customers are '95% more likely' to buy a print in a mount than one without, Photovalue.com Director Ronan Ryle has added a new 'event mount' to its range of products.

"If you are covering an event and the images 'coming off the line' don't merit wooden or acrylic frames then, at the very least, position the images in photographic strut mounts or folders and brand them with your name," advises Ronan. "This doesn't add much to your overheads but it will underline the important message about perceived value." Photovalue's Sapphire Event Mount is available in black, with sizes accommodating prints from 6x4-inches up to 12x8.
