What Are We Looking For?

Outdoor events provide endless opportunities for photographers. Look for photographs that capture atmosphere, emotion, action and the unique character of an event. Your image could show the spectacle itself or reveal a quieter moment happening within the crowd.

Capture the Atmosphere

Show us the energy, emotion and atmosphere of the occasion. Look for fleeting moments that communicate what it felt like to be there.

Live Performances

Concerts, festivals and outdoor performances offer colour, movement, dramatic lighting and plenty of opportunities for creative images.

Sporting Moments

Capture action, anticipation, celebration and those split-second moments that can define an outdoor sporting event.

Candid Moments

Look beyond the main spectacle for genuine reactions, interactions and spontaneous moments among performers, participants and spectators.

Outdoor Spectacle

Make the most of dramatic locations, changing weather, natural light and the scale of an outdoor event to create memorable photographs.

Think Creatively

Don't simply document the event. Experiment with perspective, composition, timing and processing to create something distinctive.

Improve Your Chances of Success

Great event photography is about being ready for the moment. Consider these simple approaches when selecting and creating your images.

Capture the atmosphere

Look beyond the obvious and try to capture the energy, emotion and atmosphere of the event. Look for those fleeting moments that tell the story.

Think about your composition

Keep an eye on distracting backgrounds, clutter and unwanted elements. Use your position, perspective and framing to make your main subject stand out.

Look for the decisive moment

Events are full of spontaneous moments, so be ready to capture genuine reactions, interactions and action as they happen.

Make your images stand out

Consider your crop carefully, and don't be afraid to experiment with different compositions. Take some time to process your images so that exposure, colour, contrast and sharpness work together to create a strong final photograph.
